China continues its spectacular technological development, today we are talking about the wind sector, Dongfang Electric (DEC) presented the first Chinese-made wind turbine with a power of 10 MW.
This new 10MW DEC model has been designed with offshore wind markets in mind and will compete directly with well-known Western wind power manufacturers such as General Electric, Siemens-Gamesa and MHI Vestas.
Remember that General Electric is completing the tests of the most powerful wind turbine in the world, Haliade-X, with a power of 12 MW.
The DEC 10MW prototype unveiled at the offshore wind industrial cluster of the Three Gorges of China plant in Fujian.
Characteristics of the DEC 10 MW prototype.
- Rotor diameter: 185 meters.
- Power – 10 MW.
- Designed for offshore projects with winds from 8.5 to 10 m / s.
The 10 MW DEC prototype was launched just a month after manufacturer Dongfang Electric unveiled its 10 MW permanent magnet synchronous generator designed for the new wind turbine.
Dongfang Electric is located in Sichuan and has an annual production capacity of about 100 units of this type of turbine.
The prototype will be installed in Xinghua Bay, which is a Chinese test platform for large offshore wind turbines.
The global marketing of this new wind turbine is scheduled for 2021, a date which will depend on the results of tests to be carried out in Xinghua Bay.
Manufacturer Dongfang Electric hopes to fight for a leading position in China’s offshore wind industry, which is expected to invest in large offshore projects in the coming years.
Last year, China installed 1.8 GW of offshore wind, reaching a cumulative capacity of 4.4 GW, analysts say Chinese offshore wind could reach 30 GW in 2030.
