Omri Amirav and Anthony Evans have designed a DNA sequence that allows plants to emit light. He solicited funding for his “Glowing Pant Project” through a crowdfunding campaign, where he raised over half a million dollars to begin developing his project.

Their goal is for the Arabidopsis thaliana plant to be able to emit light in the dark. Thus creating a new generation of plants capable of emitting light that could in the future replace the lampposts that illuminate the streets of our streets.
