Lamp with Tetra Brik

My first tutorial for EcoInventos was a lantern with tetra brik, well, since we know how to do the first one, we are going to complicate it a bit 😉 with the same materials and even more, with more patience and ingenuity, this time we will make a table lamp with the shape of a house.

Materials.

  • 3 Tetra brik.
  • Marker pen.
  • Scissors, cutter.
  • Newsprint, magazine or folios to reuse.
  • Toilet paper or paper towels.
  • White tail.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Blue, yellow, orange, green and pink tissue paper. (These are the ones I use but you can change them as you like)
  • Ribbons, laces, lace or whatever you want to add to decorate.
  • 4 plastic caps for chairs, to be used with the legs at the base.
  • Cable with plug and switch, a socket for the bulb, a low consumption bulb.
  • Water-based paint of the desired colors, brush and small brush.

Steps to make your own lamp with Tetra Brik.

  1. Step 1.

With a marker, mark the doors and windows (2 windows in the front and 1 window on each side, there is none behind).

With scissors or a craft knife, cut the shape of the windows, the bottom part of each container and the side where they are going to be joined (so that the light is distributed inside, if they stay together with the interior partition, the light will only be seen through the windows of the container where the bulb is located). Cut the height of one of the containers so that the house has two different heights (keep in mind that the bulb needs to fit in one of the containers, in this case the taller one).

Cut out a strip in the shape of a roof and window pot from the remains of the containers.

Now with duct tape, join the two parts of the caita, the roof and the window pots.

  2. 2nd step.

Using bank glue (if it is very thick, you can add water), glue strips of newspaper on the outside.

Let the first layer dry to stick another one. You may have to wait until the next day.

With 2 layers of paper, this is enough, because tetra brik are very resistant and with this amount of layers of paper, it will be hard enough already.

When you go to glue the newspaper, you need to cut off the excess in the corners of the windows and shape the roof because when it dries, it is harder and more difficult to cut.

  3. Step 3.

Once the layers of newspaper are glued, to give it a rough texture it is necessary to stick a layer of toilet or kitchen paper, only one, only for the texture, very carefully because it tears easily.

You will also put this last layer of paper inside, as you will be painting it white and the interior texture of the container is smooth and waterproof and does not take paint.

With this layer it will end up being harder, the toilet paper when wet and dry is very durable.

If you feel it is necessary, you can use sandpaper to soften the texture a bit.

If you don’t want to give it that rough texture, don’t put a layer of toilet paper on it.

When it is dry, you put a base of white paint inside and out.

It is important that the interior is white to better reflect the light.

  4. Step 4.

Now we are going to color our little house.

You can paint it, but in this case I wanted to color it with tissue paper. For this you need to cut the paper to size on each side including the window and door spaces. They are glued with white glue like newspaper, very carefully as it can break.

Inside the windows and door you put double yellow tissue paper or whatever color you prefer the light, depending on what color you put it, the light the house will give.

After the tissue paper is dry, you can finish decorating it as you prefer, I made a painted vine, glued a bead on the edge of the windows and door and a ribbon on the bottom edge.

To protect it, you can give it a coat of craft varnish or white glue which, when dry, remains transparent and protects. Be careful with this step, as some tissue papers release the color when you brush with the white glue and stain other colors, do so with patience.

  5. Step 5.

You make a hole the size of the nut through which the cable will pass. In this case, I didn’t make the hole in the center, I did it on one side because the bulb only fits on the highest side of the house.

You glue 2 layers of newspaper on both sides. Always leave the hole clear.

When it’s dry, you give it a white paint base or the second layer of paper you glue on, which is white paper.

The last layer of paper will be silk. If you don’t use tissue paper, you paint it the color you want.

You glue a plastic cap with silicone on each corner, so that it has more grip, you can fill the caps with paper. You glue this on the side that will be down.

And to finish the base, you just need to install the cable with the socket for the bulb.

(This photo belongs to another lamp model but the process is the same).

  6. Step 6.

Our house lamp is already assembled and ready.

The house is not attached to the base, it is only placed on it. It is important that it can be easily attached and removed to change the bulb.

Remember this is an idea, it is my experience, but by knowing these steps you can create any shape and decoration you want.

Hope you liked it and enjoy doing it.
