Having a tub like the one in the picture, Jacuzzi type, can be a luxury unattainable for many. But what if you do it yourself? The possibility is there, although it will not be easy. If you dare, we give you the keys to do it, even if you need advice, because this project has its complications.
1. Choose where you build the tub.
Starting with the simplest, you will need to determine where you want to build the tub. If you are not clear on this, try to make it an area that is totally free from anything that could affect your home and its electrical, water, etc. installations. as well as the roots.
2. Prepare the ground.
If you go for a tub like the one in the picture i.e. underground, you will need to do a lot of ground work. So, you will need to dig a hole as large as the proportions you want your tub to be. When deciding, keep in mind that the larger it is, the greater the need for water and energy to heat it, as well as to maintain the temperature. Whichever size you choose, add at least 15 extra centimeters.
Regarding the design, opting for a lock offers good results.
3. Insulate the pit.
Once you have made a hole for your tub, cover it with plastic sheeting and make sure they are firmly secured to the floor, for example with roofing nails. On the plastic fabric you will then need to put foam for insulation at least 5 centimeters thick.
To keep the fabric insulating, you can opt for wire mesh or a comparable material. Remember to cover absolutely the entire surface of the tub.
4. Apply cement.
It’s time to apply the cement. If you’ve never worked on it and aren’t sure how much you might need, it’s best to consult a specialist.
Then you will need to mix the cement in a wheelbarrow and apply it very carefully to the wire.
Once you’ve covered the entire tub, allow it to dry thoroughly before continuing with the project. This process can take up to a week. When you are sure the cement is completely dry, apply two coats of sealant.
5. Obtain a submersible stove.
Once you’ve done that, place it in the narrowest part of the horseshoe frame. Be sure to install a wooden fence or some type of protective barrier that divides the space between the area for heating the water and the tub, so as to ensure the safety of anyone who uses it. Also, do not fix the stove only with the supports it will integrate. This way add an extraordinary bottom for support, for example with straps.
6. Make sure the tub drains.
The easiest way to do this will be to acquire a quick drain system that sucks water from the tub.
Other constructive alternatives.
To have more alternatives than the previous one, you can see in this video another solution to equip yourself with your own bathtub with hot water.
In this case, a surface structure which, compared to the previous option, can facilitate the construction task because it is not necessary to dig the ground. If you choose this system, remember that you will need to empty the tub, for example with a quick drain system. In addition, you will need to ensure their isolation. For this you can use waterproof foam.
