Although it is possible to manufacture to measure, today there are a series of standardized measures for countertops and kitchen sinks. These common measures are largely due to the standardized measures of kitchen or modulation furniture.

Standard dimensions of kitchen countertops

Length of kitchen countertops

The maximum length of a bench is determined by the material, manufacturer and even industry standards. In other words, the dimensions of the pieces offered are not the same for marble, porcelain or laminate countertops.

For example, in the field of laminated or post-formed countertops, they offer a product fully suited to kitchen manufacturing standards:

  • Length: 3660 – 4100 mm
  • Width: 625-630 mm

On the other hand, the stone sector (granites, marbles, quartz, porcelain) offers plates of much larger dimensions that the bricklayer must cut to suit the kitchen design.

  • Length: 3200 – 3000 mm
  • Width: 1580 – 1440 mm

Note: When lengths greater than these are needed, what is done is to tie or join the pieces.

How long do the benches last?

The final length that ends up having a kitchen counter, after making cuts, loops, etc. comes conditioned by the combination of modulation used, which as already mentioned is quite standardized.

The most common measures are: 30, 40, 45, 50, 60, 80 and 90 centimeters in length.

The depth or width of the benches

The most common depth or width of kitchen countertops is 62.5-63 centimeters. This is not a random measure, but is due to:

  • The most common depth of the low kitchen module, on which the hob is placed, is 58 cm.
  • To these, about 2 cm more should be added, corresponding to the thickness of the door.
  • And finally, a light ruffle, which in this case is approximately 2.5-3 centimeters.

Thickness or thickness of kitchen countertops

Although in this sense the most common thicknesses are 2 and 3.5 centimeters, for fashion and / or design reasons we can find thinner or thicker countertops, always within a certain logic.

Thicknesses less than 1 cm may weaken a work surface, such as a kitchen counter.

Kitchen sink measurements

The measures and sizes of the sinks are also conditioned by the size of the kitchen modules. This makes perfect sense, since the sink or sinuses must fit inside the module.

The most common measures for sinks are for modules of 45, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 centimeters.

That said, we must keep in mind that there are many types of kitchen sinks. On the one hand, we have the overlapping or on the bench (the most common) and also those that are under the bench. On the other hand, those with one or two breasts. These classifications must be taken into account when designing a kitchen, as the sink must be located in a suitable module (sufficiently large).

It is common for the manufacturer to provide the ideal measures for cutting the countertop and for the sink to be perfect. If this is not the case, we must make this model or measurements ourselves. Normally, the clearance is between 1 and 2 centimeters narrower than the sink, so that you can use the fixing clips, at least on bench sinks.

example kitchen sink measures

In the previous image, we have an example. It is a sink of a 40 cm bowl with dimensions of 86 × 51 centimeters. The ideal gap is 84 × 49 and can be perfectly installed in a 90 module.
