One of the many exotic species that inhabit the Amazon region of South America is the camu camu, a tree and fruit native to the Peruvian Amazon, which spreads through land prone to flooding during the rainy season.

Camu camu is a small reddish fruit with a slightly sour taste. And although its leaves and even the bark of the tree are typically used for healing purposes, the most common use is for its fruits, especially thanks to its high levels of vitamin C.

It is estimated that in its pulp this super food can reach a concentration of this vitamin 30 times higher than other fruits, such as orange or lemon.

Properties of camu camu.

This fruit is an ideal source of antioxidants because it has good levels of flavonoids. Antioxidants, as some may know, are substances that help neutralize free radicals in the body. In this way, the risk of developing diseases is minimized and, in turn, the deterioration of mental functions is avoided.

There is no information indicating any side effect of consuming this fruit, beyond a possible excess of vitamin C which could cause vomiting or diarrhea.
