Iberdrola is planning a 100 MW solar photovoltaic plant, a 20 MWh storage system and a system for producing green hydrogen by electrolysis (20 MW) with 100% renewable sources.

The hydrogen produced will be used in a Fertiberia fertilizer plant in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), making it the first European company in its sector to implement large-scale green ammonia production.

This project will generate 700 jobs and prevent emissions of 39,000 tCOof them/year.

Iberdrola and Fertiberia signed an agreement for the construction of the the largest green hydrogen plant for industrial use in Europe.

The green hydrogen will be used in the Fertiberia ammonia plant in Puertollano. One of the most efficient factories in the European Union, with a production capacity of over 200,000 t / year.

Fertiberia will be the first European company in the sector to develop large-scale experience in the production of green ammonia.

The oxygen obtained as a by-product of the electrolysis of water will be used in its entirety in Fertiberia’s nitric acid unit, which also reduces its emissions.
