First look at Tesla’s new solar tile technology with custom accessories via a Tesla report obtained by Electrek.
Tesla is finalizing the third version of its solar roof, which they say would lower the price significantly.
Tesla’s solar tiles are part of Elon Musk’s plan to offer more aesthetic solar products to create a distinctive brand that can differentiate itself from other installers depending on the product.
When announcing the product for the first time, he said that they were working on these types of sun products:
I think that’s really a fundamental part of achieving a differentiated product strategy.
The CEO thinks that today’s solar products look the same and that the roofs are ugly.
The sunroof was Tesla’s solution to this problem. The originally uncovered shingles looked sleek, but now Tesla also makes sure they match the rest of the roof for a sleek overall design.
In a new document sent to some customers and obtained by Electrek, Tesla describes custom accessories:
Custom-designed flashings and finials match your home’s unique roof design and slope, while accentuating solar shingles and ensuring maximum weather resistance. The end result is a roof that looks better and lasts longer.

Tesla also claims they are replacing vents and other items that protrude from the roof to accommodate solar tiles.
They wrote in the document:
Vents and skylights are replaced or modified to match the new aesthetic of your solar roof. Some ventilation openings can be completely replaced with the integrated sunroof ventilation. Vents that cannot be removed will be replaced or modified to ensure exceptional visual appeal.
The CEO also boasted that the price of the V3 solar roof was equivalent to a tiled roof plus the electric bill.
