This is a project to democratize energy, through the installation and maintenance of a wind turbine with the capacity to produce electricity for 2,000 families.

An initiative developed by industrial engineer Pep Puig. It was created in 2009, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the installation of the first Catalonia wind turbine in the Baix Emporda.

The proposal was to buy a wind turbine 100% financed by individuals. In addition to the private contribution of hundreds of investors, they obtained a loan from Som Energía for one million euros.

The wind turbine was installed in December 2017 and in March 2018 it was connected to the grid to start producing electricity. Installed in Pujalt, in the Catalan region of Alta Noia, Barcelona for its good wind conditions.

Characteristics of wind turbines.

The most important characteristics of this wind turbine are:

  • Enercon E-103 EP2 model.
  • Specially designed to offer great performance in low wind areas.
  • 2.35 megawatts of power.
  • It can produce 5,653 MWh / year.
  • It can produce electricity to power 2,000 homes.
  • Avoid the emission of 6,000 tonnes of CO2.

A new model of private electricity production.

Everyone who contributed to the initial investment receive your benefit. Once the accounts are closed, the net income is distributed, fees discounted, in proportion to the investment of each participant.

Each investor is expected to recover the capital contributed and obtain a average profitability of 2.3% per year, throughout the useful life of the wind turbine (25 years).

For the development of the project, the company was created Eolpop SL, who will be responsible for running and issuing equity accounts to create shared ownership of the wind turbine. You will even have to manage sales and energy contracts, machine maintenance and insurance.

They currently have 610 investors, who have contributed more than 2,800,000 €. The money was provided by individuals, small and medium-sized businesses.
