Wood bonding is the simplest and most economical joint. It does not require the use of special tools or skills. The glue is simply applied to the surfaces to be glued and can harden completely.

It does not require tools and achieves good resistance joints. Wood bonding is very cheap and durable, with no toxicity.

For gluing, vinyl glue for wood is used. The glue penetrates the pores of the wood, unifying the surfaces as it dries. In the past, glues took many hours to acquire their greatest hardness, today there are quick-drying glues, which require only 24 hours to acquire maximum strength.

Wood bonding technique

For the correct application of wood bonding, we will avoid top joints (against grain), as this sense of the fiber has a bad finish, it is not smooth even though it is sanded. We should avoid it as much as possible or use another joining technique.

There are a number of procedures that we must perform before pasting:

  • Sanding: the surfaces to be glued must be perfectly smooth and flat, so that the glue works effectively.
  • Cleaning: we must remove all particles of dust or dirt, so that the glue will solidify properly, otherwise the joint will be compromised.
  • Fair: it is necessary to present the pieces to verify that they fit perfectly, before gluing, as the glue is a great adhesive, but it is not good for filling, which reduces the joint strength and impairs the finish.

To improve the result of the union, we will affirm with tweezers, tweezers, bands, or another element, the parts to be joined, so that the pressure in the joint is constant, until the glue is completely hardened.

To prevent the fasteners from leaving marks on the wood, place a piece of strip or pin between the fastener and the wood.

We must glue the two surfaces together. The glue will drain when pressing the pieces and we must clean it with a damp cloth, to avoid stains. In the case of a carpentry work, we will cover the ends of the piece with adhesive tape, leaving only a strip in the area to be glued. This way, the excess will remain on the belt, without damaging the wood.

The gluing of wood allows the elimination of the use of nails, screws or any other fixation. Although the use of dowels or dowels and biscuits are a great addition to this type of wooden joint.
